Planting schemes
The photographs below give a glimpse of the infinite combinations of plants, their colours, textures and forms, for schemes that may be near a house and so formal with some structural planting or further away and so looser, less formal and even a little wild to blend with the natural world.
Planting gives a garden character and also a rhythm, helping dictate the pace at which a garden is enjoyed. It can lead the eye, wow the onlooker, create quieter dappled light filled leafy places for contemplation, form intimate eating areas under arbours covered in scented roses and jasmine. The possibilities are endless.
Each scheme is specific to each particular garden, responding to the client's brief. The soil, the seasons, the environmental conditions, pollinators and the level of maintenance to hand are all taken into consideration.
Projects undertaken include planting around the house, traditional herbaceous borders, mixed borders with both shrub and perennial plants, walled gardens, wild flower meadows, orchards, woodland planting and wilder areas of planting merging with the landscape.

'Plants embody everything that I like to have around me: presence, personality, character. They are supple and therefore strong, and yet soft-spoken and gentle; they are fragrant and delicate; they have movement, colour, structure, scale and proportion. Plants are large in form, tiny in detail and always a single whole. Plants are beautiful in sun and rain, in tropical heat, fighting immortal cold, dancing in the wind, buffeted by storms. Plants have long been part of the earth's history. They come from afar. Their beauty is deep and beyond question. It can be overwhelming; their fragrance beguiling.' Peter Zumthor |
