profile
Lucy has been involved in designing gardens and planting schemes for over 20 years. Her small studio is based in Norfolk from where she indulges her passion for plants and their place in the natural world, collaborating with clients, architects and landscape architects, choosing plants and drafting planting plans for gardens of all shapes, sizes and specific conditions.
Coming up with understated and elegant planting schemes, Lucy has a particular interest in responding to a client's brief to help ensure the garden as a whole sits comfortably with a property and the surrounding landscape.
Services offered include creating planting plans, schemes and maintenance schedules in collaboration with clients and their gardeners, helping with the ongoing development of a garden as it matures.
Schemes tend to have a strong underlying structure to ensure there is interest year round, which also acts as a backdrop for abundant, scented, pollinator friendly planting giving a sense of relaxed and gentle order, in tune with the natural world.
With a background in film and theatre, (Royal National Theatre, Royal Opera House) Lucy went on to study Residential Landscape Design at The Oxford College of Garden Design. Before setting up her own practice Lucy worked for garden designers Xa Tollemache, Mary Keen and Pip Morrison for a number of years. Lucy also gardened at Petersham House, affiliated to Petersham Nurseries in west London and at beautiful Cothay Manor in Somerset. Working as a garden advisor, Lucy draws on this experience, breathing new life into mature and historic gardens. This may involve reinvigorating older tired planting or introducing new elements, while retaining the spirit of a place.
Lucy's work has been featured in House and Garden, Homes and Gardens, The English Garden and The London Evening Standard.
